The LUMINEX system is based on laboratory multianalyte profiling (LabMAP™) technology that uses up to 100 color-coded bead sets, each of which can be conjugated with a different specific reactant. Thus, up to 100 different species can be simultaneously measured in a single tube or microplate well. LUMINEX assays involve the interaction of immobilized “bead-bound” capture molecules with a reaction partner (analyte) in solution. A reporter molecule, specific for the analyte, is used to quantify the interaction. The constituents of each well are drawn up into the flow-based LUMINEX array reader (Luminex 100/200), where each reaction (bead set) is identified by its spectral signature after excitation by the red classification laser. The attendant reporter signal from each reaction is simultaneously quantified by fluorescence generated by the green reporter laser. The Luminex software provides automated data analysis and the generation of detailed summary reports.
